I started Tropic aged fifteen with one goal: to help my mum pay the bills.

Inspired by my Grandma’s homemade body scrub recipe, I recreated the exotic blend at our kitchen table, before selling it at Greenwich market every weekend.

What began as a market stall side-hustle, has now blossomed into a multi-award-winning business with millions of customers and over 30,000 five-star reviews. But our principles have never changed. We still use the finest tropical ingredients for real results. We still freshly make every formulation. And we still do good beyond beauty. It’s in our nature.”

The Tropic Timeline

From humble beginnings to the Tropic of today, take a look at our story so far.

1988 - 2001

Early influences

Growing up in Cairns, Australia, Susie was in awe of the lush tropical landscapes around her.

She loved spending time with her grandma, a medicinal chemist and toxicologist, who taught her about the importance of nourishing her body with a fresh and colourful diet, and caring for her skin with powerful natural ingredients.

Tropic blossoms

After moving to London as a teenager, Susie was determined to help her mum pay the bills and find a way out of debt. So, she recreated the homemade body scrub recipe her Grandma had used to soothe mosquito bites in Cairns.

Aged fifteen, Susie poured her freshly made scrub into 50 jam jars and started selling at Greenwich market. She sold-out on her first day!

Over the next six years, Susie kept studying full-time, using her evenings and weekends to formulate recipes and sell them across London.

Open for business

After appearing on BBC’s The Apprentice, Lord Sugar invested in Tropic and we moved our operation from Susie’s mum’s kitchen, to our first ever Tropic HQ!

Building a community

Susie always loved connecting with her market stall customers, encouraging them to feel and smell the fresh formulations.

So, when Tropic officially launched on May 4th 2013, we maintained this personal touch with a social selling platform powered by 400 founding Ambassadors. This model empowered beauty lovers across the country to sell our products to family and friends and earn a commission.

Top images show our Ambassadors coming together and being connected by Tropic Skincare and the bottom image shows Tropic staff planting trees.

Always growing

We were recognised by The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 as the UK’s fastest-growing skincare brand for the fifth year running.

Plus, we’d built a family of over 20,000 Tropic Ambassadors.

The following logos are featured: The Sunday Times Hundred 2022, Made on Britain, Provenance and Reef Restoration foundation. Another image shows a lady adding rainforest dew serum in a pipette to her hands. And the final image is Ocean Dive serum shown underwater near Coral reefs.

Ever evolving

We upgraded every single formula in our core skincare range, making almost all of them COSMOS Certified Organic.

We also updated our packaging to ensure every product is either refillable, recyclable or returnable.

A new chapter

We’ve freshened up our look with imagery that takes you to the heart of our tropical roots.

Dewy rainforests, dappled sunlight and warm showers transport your senses as you indulge in sensorial self-care moments.
