Or perhaps we should be asking, is there a difference?
We can see where the confusion lies with this one. Don’t dry and dehydrated mean the same thing? Can I have dry skin that’s perfectly hydrated?
Well, we want to put this confusion to bed once and for all!
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES?
DRY SKIN
- Dry skin is a type of skin rather than a particular condition, which occurs as a result of the skin not producing enough oil.
- Its effects can be similar to those of dehydrated skin (dullness, flakiness, itchiness, sensitivity or tightness).
DEHYDRATED SKIN
- Dehydrated skin can be caused by a number of things, but is predominantly affected by diet, weather, skincare routine and makeup application.
- Dehydration tends to be exacerbated by cold weather and can (confusingly) lead to excess oil production, as an overdrive reaction to its thirsty state. This can often mean that skin feels oily and dry at the same time, which can make it confusing to take care of.
