Coconut oil

What is Coconut oil?

Coconut oil is a white, edible oil that comes from the meat of dried coconuts (copra). It's regularly used in cooking for its health benefits, which mostly come from its rich antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. These health-enhancing characteristics also make a popular skincare ingredient and a much-loved part of many people’s self-care routines.

What are the benefits?

Whether it's applied directly to the skin, or formulated into a skincare product, coconut oil boasts plenty of nourishing benefits.

Coconut oil contains fatty acids (lauric, capric) which, thanks to their antimicrobial properties, help to prolong skin health. These acids work to banish acne-aggravating bacteria that can grow on the surface of the skin, preventing breakouts and blemishes.

What’s more, coconut oil’s anti-inflammatory properties can help to minimise common redness and irritation associated with acne and angry skin.

With a silky soft texture, coconut oil is easily absorbed into the skin, delivering near-instant hydration and protection when it’s most needed. And since it’s rich in antioxidants, it both defends against free radicals and promotes collagen development.

How do we use it?

While coconut oil can be applied directly to the skin, we fold it into our freshly made formulations to make them yet more efficacious and indulgent.

In fact, we love coconut oil so much that it features across several Tropic Skincare products. From our Eyes On You Pressed Shadow, right through to our Cleansing Body Pebble, coconut oil enriches our products with extra nourishment and a deliciously creamy smell.
