As you already know, we’re a vegan, cruelty-free brand that’s committed to being a force for good beyond beauty in everything we do. Our Infinite Purpose is to create a healthier, greener, more empowered world. From sustainably sourcing our ingredients and never testing on animals, to planting thousands of trees and funding education with every purchase, we’re breaking records left, right, and centre. But there’s one thing we don’t do at Tropic – and that’s rest on our laurels. We’re always striving to be and do better. So much of our hard work isn’t visible yet, so we wanted to take this opportunity to share how we’ve been investing in our planet – this year and beyond. With your continued support, we’ve been able to set some incredibly impressive pledges – all in the name of leaving our precious Earth in a better state than we found it. HEALTHIER
To create a planet that’s healthier, we work hard to make sure our bestselling Mama and Little Tropic range is COSMOS-certified. This certification confirms that 95 per cent (or more!) of the agricultural ingredients in a product are from organic fields, sustainably sourced, not tested on animals, and free from synthetic fertilisers. So, not only are they healthy for your skin, but for the planet too! In fact, we’re always looking at ways we can use more organic ingredients, because organic fields sequester more carbon and have lower emissions, which means they really help us go the extra mile to create a healthier planet.
In our quest to boost the health of our planet, we make sure that all of the products we manufacture at our HQ are made with 100% renewable energy. Plus, we’re also helping to fund 16 wind turbines in Guatemala, providing 20,000 homes with cleaner, planet-protective energy. Take that, fossil fuels!
For four years running, we’ve been a certified CarbonNeutral® company – and last year, our carbon footprint was even lower than in 2020! With the aim of heading further in this direction, we’re continuing to invest in double offsetting our emissions. We’ve already identified ways to make this happen, such as examining how we import all our ingredients, and looking at how members of the Tropic team commute to work, with more and more Borrow Bikes available at HQ! So, watch this space for healthier team members and an even happier planet!
GREENER
We’re already a landfill-free brand, but at the beginning of the year we also announced that we’ll be halving our use of virgin plastic across our core skincare line (the products available in our Skincare Selection) to further reduce plastic waste. To achieve this, we’re introducing more refillable packaging concepts, as well as using more recycled plastic. We’re very excited to reveal the progress we’ve made, which will be in your hands very soon...
As well as going the extra mile to prevent damage to our planet, we also partner with the Reef Restoration Foundation and Forestry England to help our Earth flourish. This includes funding the restoration of coral on the Great Barrier Reef, and planting trees a little closer to home in the UK. In fact, we just completed our goal of creating a Tropic Forest, by planting 7,000 climate-resistant saplings in Queen Elizabeth County Park, Hampshire! These are two amazing ways to invest in the future of our planet, creating new habitats to protect our precious wildlife and safeguarding the survival of the natural world.
EMPOWERED
By the end of this year, we will have donated more than £2 million to our long-term charity partners, including United World Schools, Eden Reforestation Projects, the Winnie Mabaso Foundation, and more.
These deserving causes all do life-changing, planet-protective work – and we’ll continue to do everything we can to support their operations and invest in their success.
We already fund United World Schools in Nepal, Myanmar and Cambodia, and one of the highlights of 2022 will be opening a new one in a village called Ampandrivotse, Southwest Madagascar. The building work is almost complete, and this school will bring education to a remote community for the first time. What could be more rewarding than investing in the futures of budding little learners?
